Kelly Martin experienced the struggles and challenges of several temporary jobs he describes in his book. Learning to appreciate the challenges of people in many roles — whether checking out groceries, serving ice cream, driving a truck, or any one of a variety of occupations — he has learned to be a much better listener. It seems not enough of us are willing to spend time listening to our fellow members on The Journey we call life. After obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation, he acquired experience in over thirty different models of aircraft. His passengers have included coaches, Special Olympics team members, governors, and government officials. Conducting training in high-tech simulators over several years, he administered initial and recurrent training to pilots of various backgrounds. His experience enables him to be an encourager to friends or relatives going through their struggles. Although regularly flying in business jets at high altitudes, he feels closest to God while on the ground, surrounded by fellow believers. To be recognized in this world of ours, it seems one must be exceptionally talented or beautiful. Not enough recognition is given to those who go about their daily lives, dedicated to their job and family, living responsibly and honorably. None of us is perfect, but through perseverance, we can each strive for that goal. Remembering one Christmas spent with only his Min-Pin, Max, Kelly now lives with his wife, Judy, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He is very aware of and thankful for God’s blessings — several of those in the form of grandchildren. Many of those blessings seemed impossible but are rewards for hanging onto that tiny seed of Faith.
